In my pre-survey I asked 4 questions, here are the results! (all the numbers are on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the worst and 10 the best)
First, I asked what their self-confidence level was at the moment. On average it was about a 6.8. This was better than I expected and, so I am really glad they were already pretty self-confident. The next question was 3 facts they already knew about healthy exercising. Some girls didn't even know three facts or put down general answers like "eat food" or "don't fall and die". The next question was 3 facts they already knew about healthy eating. Just like before, not many knew facts and would put down general answers like "helps lose weight" and "only eat healthy foods". When talking to the girls I realized that to them, eating any "junk food" or "candy" would make you fat and they discussed that sugar is evil. They also felt that if you ate that food that you are "evil like" or villainous. This was really surprising to me! We talked about this almost every week and they started realizing that eating some candy was okay, as long as the majority of the foods they ate were healthy. The last question was about how excited they were, and the average was about 7.3, which made sense because some were told to go by their parents while others wanted to be there. In the end, they all were excited to come to camp.
At the end of camp, I gave out a concluding survey. The first question was if they felt their self-confidence improved. We talked about this in discussions, worked on teamwork and really focused on supporting each other. I am happy to report that the girls felt an improvement of about 7.8 which is great! Next, I asked how much fun they had, the average was 8.6 which is great and an improvement from before. Then I asked 3 new facts they learned about exercising. They were all amazing and many said that they learned that "exercising can be fun", " you need to warm up before exercising" and ho "we should be exercising daily for 30 minutes to an hour". Then I asked what 3 new facts they learned about healthy eating, these were also great as they shared that they learned we should eat " 5 cups of fruits and veggies" and that we need to "drink water" and "eating some sugar is okay, as long as [you] watch how much [you] eat". Finally, I asked how much they learned and I was very happy to learn the average was about 7.5! Overall, camp was really fun for me and the girls!
